Buy an Old Fishing Rod
You can buy your first rod rather than waiting for one as a gift.

Reel in a fish on Switch
- Press A when the fish bites.
- Stop pressing A while it struggles.
- Push the left analog stick opposite the direction the fish is escaping.
- Once the fish stops struggling, press A again to reel it in.
Use the left stick for the counter-movement, not the L shoulder button. On other platforms, follow the corresponding prompts displayed by the game.
Find fishing bait
Buy bait at Eileen’s general store or from Priya in Tidewind. You can also find bait by breaking rocks beside rivers.
For a place near Bloomfield to try, head east to the bridge and break rocks along the riverbank. Check the bait against the fish you are targeting: one bait does not suit every fish. Crucian Carp, for example, can be caught without bait or with options such as Ragworm or Worm.
Visit Priya’s Fishing Zone
Find Priya’s Fishing Zone at the northern end of Tidewind’s dock. Buy an all-day pass at the counter, then enter the fishing area behind the rope barrier.
Check the noticeboard for that day’s fish. Fish caught inside this zone become points, rather than items in your bag. The zone closes at 20:00, so plan your session around the closing time.
Ragworm or Worm is also a useful choice for the story Guardian fishing encounter on Tornado Island.
