Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea Farming Guide: Soil, Water & Fertilizer

The short answer

Check field health with Soilbot, plant a manageable area, and water ordinary crops each day unless it rains. Turn barn manure into fertilizer and use other towns’ fields for different growing seasons.

Check your soil before planting

Use Soilbot to inspect field health. Start with a field you can look after rather than filling every plot immediately. Healthy soil and a manageable watering round make it easier to leave time for exploration.

Tools respond to the plot’s state: till ground that needs tilling, sow where planting is available, and harvest a mature crop. You do not need to assign every farming tool to a separate shortcut first.

Water ordinary crops each day

After planting, return to water your ordinary crops each day. Rain takes care of that day’s watering.

Orchard seedlings are an exception to this ordinary crop routine. Keep grass and trees separate from a blanket “water everything” rule and follow their own planting instructions.

Make fertilizer from manure

Clean the barn, collect manure, and put it into the Fertiliser Machine. Use the fertilizer on crops to improve their quality. Do not treat one application as a guaranteed quality result for every crop.

Use fields beyond Bloomfield

Fields in other towns give you access to different growing conditions. A town with a fixed season can be useful when the crop you need is out of season in Bloomfield.

Travel still leaves your crops to look after. Plan watering around long trips until you have sprinklers. Fences can help protect crops in storms, but they are not a guarantee against every disaster.
